Pros

The people are smart and social.

Cons

In the MSE side of the business, senior management make you sing and dance in front of a large group of people for not hitting monthly KPIs.

Pros

-Working alongside and building relationships with true c-level executives in the Fortune 100. Priceless experience. -Gartner travel policy is generous.

Cons

-Biggest bait and switch of my career -Since Evanta was acquired by Gartner, they promised things has changed and that their previous bad reputation was to more. ... spoiler alert, nothing changed. Evanta is a very small subdivision and from my experience nothing like the parent company Gartner. -I was told for this role that the Governing Body was very engaged and would gladly offer introductions to speaker leads, sponsor leads, etc. and that the role was more of an event project manager handling 1. timeline completion and budget control. And 2. relationship management with your assigned community (aka Governing Body.). Bait and switch #1. The only thing the company cares about is sponsorship profit and will put this far above the quality of the event and customer experience. This is a sale role even though you are not told that it is! And the goals are unachievable. It is astonishing to me where they make up these numbers up. The only way you will hit your goals is by lying to your governing body and lying to your sponsors. -the culture is not collaborative. Since everyone is focused on their own individual goals and desperate attempts to not be fired, your teammates will do whatever it takes to hit a goal even if it means poor quality. -the promise that is made to these c-level executives is not withheld. I felt that that embarrassment and shame fell on me since I was the face of the company and the experience that was promised to them. -I stayed for 2.5 years hoping it would turn around with Gartner's influence ... no luck. -I would never recommend Evanta for career opportunities or to clients to engage with them professionally (as an attendee or sponsor).

Pros

Lower-ranking people are smart, and dedicated individuals. Gartner's recruiters are great about finding good people. Work-life balance is generally good, but you have to force it, and will depend on the manager. Management > Culture at every step. Benefits are amazing. Healthcare is top-tier and extremely affordable. Vacation time is great, and usually easy to use. Remote work opportunities are nice, but depend on how outdated your manager is.

Cons

Gartner has terrible org. structure in IT. Pretty ironic for a 'leader' of the IT industry, no? Processes are lacking across the board. Internal support is atrocious. You'd think we'd follow our own research and best practices, but that's hardly the case it seems. You'll struggle at every step because nothing is documented. Pay for the expectations placed on you are outrageous. Expect to bounce back and forth between silly escalations (because nobody knows how to say no or put people in their place), projects, user support, all at the same time while trying to do your normal job every day. Then add on mediocre reviews for putting out average quality results. Gartner refuses to make investments into IT resources, more people are needed desperately. I guess that's how they maintain their double digit growth.
