Pros

Great benefits and perks, very positive culture, friendly people, good internal tools

Cons

Not a lot of collaboration, work is very individual, went through multiple reorgs in 2 years at Google Cloud. Design-first culture is not very adaptable to changing requirements and learning more over the lifetime of a project. Got laid off when the company had previously prided themselves on not doing layoffs.

Pros

Interacting with the people at Google was highly fulfilling. Both technically and socially. I rarely experienced such a density of highly intellectual and interesting people. The "outside of work" passions ranged from being featured on national juggling magazines to explaining rocket science over dinner. The offices are unbelievable. Free high quality and daily changing food in multiple cafeterias with different themes, slides, fire poles, kick scooters, countless common areas to work and relax, beautiful interior designs, built-in scavenger hunts, jokes, and trivia everywhere, ... The offer of "apart from work" activities is huge. From gyms with personal trainers and massages over countless clubs, company events, and external speakers from academia and arts, to a big selection of volunteering opportunities like teaching coding in underprivileged high schools where Googles takes care of all the logistics, including the presentation slides.

Cons

The expectations are extremely high. Google aims to hire some of the best, often succeeds, and expects corresponding results. With the right manager and discipline, it is doable, but imposter syndromes and other anxieties are common.
