Pros

I worked at HSBC for 6 years and never felt a part of the organisation because it lacks a culture. It does not instil in you any values, it does not make you feel valuable either. You are merely a number and work is seen as a transaction process where money is paid for the work you do.

Cons

As said above, if it wants to survive the next 10 years it has to invest in its employees and think long term

Pros

Good benefits, healthy work/life balance and generally a good atmosphere in the office.

Cons

Painfully slow and bureaucratic, almost to the point of paralysis. Limited possibilities for advancement on a non-managerial path. A lack of local competition in Sheffield means salaries and rises are flat. The public position on culture and values is not always embodied by management.
