Pros

Beautiful office Interesting people from a variety of backgrounds Good compensation

Cons

Terrible internal communications no commitment to employees no clarity on structure. This may have just been the department I worked it but I doubt it; and the fact that I don't know says a vast amount about how complicated their set up is! Also if you do decide to work here - pay attention to your payslips; you'd think a bank would handle this process smoothly but they do not (so many tax mistakes!) and you will not get help from HR once you leave!

Pros

Good benefit package. Some great internal training and network groups. Some interesting projects working with global teams. Flexible working usually available. Access to wider HSBC initiatives, including community involvement. Broad spectrum of roles across different business functions which are in theory accessible to all employees.

Cons

Your working environment is entirely dependent on who your head of department is - seems obvious to say, but culture can change overnight with an internal restructure. Processes, controls, governance are over cumbersome and can severely impact project timelines - there is a lack of acceptance from stakeholders that this is a real issue. Real issue of staff being managed out if face doesn't fit, despite amount of internal leadership training.
