Pros

During my time spent there, I found that people are generally less political than at other places and are willing to share and teach. No face-time expected, once you finish you are not needed anymore. Your mileage may vary as I guess that is dependent on the department.

Cons

The company structure is very tall and pretty bureaucratic, so some things may take a while to process. Compensation could be better to be honest

Pros

Global company with an excellent brand and the recognition that goes with it. Ambitious in strategy and well positioned in emerging markets.Huge network and potential to leverage this network with clients.

Cons

Not very good at retaining talent as they just don't pay. Mediocrity is in the air and it is hard to differentiate yourself given the lack of reward and incentive culture. They call HSBC the civil service of the banking world. The only people I saw rewarded were those who played the political game or threatened to leave the company. Loyalty was not rewarded and nor hard work. HSBC is not a meritocracy.

Pros

Decent base salary and access to international clients.

Cons

Layers and layers of inexperienced, unqualified managers. Many individuals in top management positions for sales departments without any sales experience. Instead of actually generating new business, managers are padding numbers and leads to pacify those in executive positions. No dynamic managers, just robots following orders. Gossip and politics is rampant.
