Pros

Finland is split into two separate ”depratments”; RnD and the sales office, which explains the differing reviews. Salaries are said to be above average, though mine was pretty industry standard. Many are hired through temporary agencies, making it easier to cut staff in RnD downsizing (normal for the industry). Consultants typically handle the technical work, while employees focus more on reporting. The work is genuinely interesting and often at the forefront of technology. The positives usually stop there. The office layout is mostly open-plan with a few rooms. Amenities are non-existent, though the coffee rooms offer a good selection of snacks and breakfast items. Work-life balance is generally quite good. I recommend huawei as general experience, but after a year or two, it’s wise to begin looking for other opportunities.

Cons

Be prepared for a culture where Chinese colleagues may take credit for others’ work, which undermines motivation and discourages cooperation. This also works for them, as managers are often unaware of what their teams actually do. Remote work and flexitime policies differ widely between teams and managers. Although HR has tried to unify these, it hasn’t succeeded. Expats are subject to separate policies and enjoy different amenities, which reflects broader inequality in the workplace. Career development is nearly non-existent unless you are Chinese. Salaries may rise, but actual career development is very limited. Micromanagement and tight supervision are widespread. Overall for cons, expect no clear career path, low cooperation, an authoritarian culture, no meaningful benefits or long-term commitment—resulting in high turnover. Inequality is so strong that its probably not even allowed by finnish law.
