Cons
Departments have budget for in-house projects and consultants, but still rely on outdated and pirated software. Urgency levels are so high and support of non-Chinese staff is so low that I end up paying out of pocket for business trips and can't rely on basic benefits like leave-time or medical insurance despite paying for it. To get work done, I buy authentic English language software that I can use at home in my off-time. Security is extreme and ineffective at the same time -- reducing productivity while increasing frustration. Only core Chinese can hold stock in the company. Non-Chinese, and non-core Chinese are expendable resources squeezed by the core players until the breaking point. That's actually the point -- you sacrifice your health and humanity until there's nothing left, then you quit -- walking away from your bonus and your labor rights. They replace you with fresh meat and the grind continues.
