Pros

Pay, flexible work schedule, access to brilliant minds! Had the privilege of working with some great individuals.

Cons

Pitting team against team, performance measurement tools did not give managers enough leeway.... Line managers really had very little say in employee reviews and compensation - ..Teamwork was promoted, however not supported . Cost reduction trumped quality every time! Focus was way too much on short term rather than long term goals.

Pros

You get to work with some of the most talented people in the world. Highly diverse workforce. Great benefits. Unique and very professional culture.

Cons

High stress at times. Many times cuts are made in personnel with remaining personnel expected to pick up the workload. Work/Life balance is stressed, but difficult or impossible to achieve.

Pros

The benefits are really nice and the people who do work locally are all very bright and dedicated.

Cons

I worked for a company that was acquired by IBM. While IBM has a lot of talented people working for it, it quickly became apparent that as a highly paid engineer at IBM you are considered a liability. We were actively interviewing engineers in India and Singapore to replace us and we told to expect yearly layoffs. They delivered on that promise. To say the mood was sour is an understatement. The worst part is the quality of our products suffered greatly and eventually there will be no one in the U.S. who actually knows how the software works.
