Pros

The rang of opportunities is very high. A lot of very talented people work here. While not always easy to find, there are projects that are on the bleeding edge of technology.

Cons

High barrier to ship projects; a lot of non-functional requirements to keep in mind (globalization, accessibility, etc.) that detract from interesting work. Hard to be promoted if in a top-heavy organization with a lot of senior engineers.

Pros

IBM Canada promotes flexible work hours - including the opportunity to work from home (when it makes sense.) This flexibility (especially in adverse weather conditions) is extremely valuable - especially when you have a family.

Cons

Market adjusted salaries are just a fancy-speak for "you're not getting a raise this year." The "rating" system is flawed, subjective, and leads to a bitter 85% of the workforce.

Pros

Obviously IBM provides the stability that comes with such a large organization, but also the subtleties such as working with cutting edge research and development. Also, IBM strives to improve work/life balance, but it can often depend on the individual or management situation.

Cons

Like any behemoth, IBM has its bureaucracy. It does seem to be a cesspool like breeding ground for middle management. There are times where you are treated like a child and not the highly educated professional that you are.
