Pros

In IBM, You can BS your way around if you're into that. There are too many people working on power point slides and very little on actual products. That is normally a negative unless you're one of the 90% who dial to conference calls 60% of the day while day dreaming.

Cons

Too many incapable people thinking they're good. Bands (promoted levels) are very inadequate to assess a person's ability to deliver. Seen too many senior level or higher employees who are just average and not more.

Pros

Following are the best reasons I think anyone should like IBM. -Research in particular helps you innovate and also absorb your creative inputs. -Lot of highlight on work life balance (honest effort from the company) -Very flexible work hours My liking for IBM are mainly because of these additional reasons: -I work in research and not too many companies have industrial research labs like of IBMs. They are unique for carrying academia quality research in industry

Cons

My points of dislikes -not a good ladder in terms of professional growth. You are silo-ed in specific groups and very difficult to reach across. - you are evaluated on your bands and the process is too bureaucratic

Pros

Being part of the state of the art of technology development. Being on the cutting edge. People work hard and produce in this division. It's great to work with such a talented and motivated group.

Cons

Career advancement and recognition are almost non-existent relative to other divisions within IBM. Other IBM divisions are recognized for their accomplishments. RSUs, options and annual awards are the norm. These things are RARE in IBM Micro. This "other division" recognition is hard to swallow when you realize that it is your team's accomplishments that have SIGNIFICANTLY helped the other divisions succeed. An important but not immediately necessary IBM non-benefit is the lack of a retirement health plan for new employees. Plain and simple, there is none. This is a huge downside for IBM.
