      Great Flexibility and opportunities but lacking culture for younger engineers

      Pros

      Flexibility in hours, great pay in a low cost to live area, great 401k and health benefits, patent oppotunities, and quick promotions if you prove yourself. There is also very intelligent people to learn from and commicate with. Very professional environment.

      Cons

      The area is very conservative feeling which can be a con for some. The culture feels very old time and not very exciting in some departments. Progress on work is slow. Old technology is really common in development in older departments since moving forward is so slow in such large companies.

      Stay away from the CIC

      Pros

      You will meet talented engineers if you get to work with those outside of the CIC If your skills are lacking, for whatever reason, this is a good place to learn on your own and get where you need to go.

      Cons

      The salary is laughable compared to the national average. Promotion is non existent The CIC has a band cap so you won't get that far The projects will set you up for failure because all of the technology is ancient Management is basically lying to your face so you won't leave You will have to have some serious connections to leave the CIC and get on IBM's real pay scale.

      Pros

      I was able to work from home for 12 years.

      Cons

      Pay raises are virtually non existent. I was told to move from California where I worked from home to Chicago to work in an office. I chose to leave IBM.
