Pros

lots of opportunity, if willing to travel relentlessly,

Cons

Many non customers located positions being off shored, IBM is working towards having an 80/20 split of staff, that is 80% at low cost centres (offshore) and 20% located at customer locations. Many of those 20% are also offshore staff that have been brought in for short term roles. Therefor the expectation is that you will work at customer locations, being away from home much of the time, and when you can be replaced for low cost you will be. Also IBM now offer only statutory redundancy, which is the first time they have done this over the last 7 years I have worked here, on average 1-2 rounds of redundancy per year ! this has seriously impacted many IBMers who have 20 or even 30+ years of service. Loyalty used to be two sided in this company, but unfortunately no longer, everyone is waitng for the next round of cuts and that 'tap on the shoulder'

Pros

Easy interview process for those straight from college...salary is decent for a entry level position

Cons

Raises are miniscule and bonuses are almost non existent. Travel is said to be 50% but is really 100% or whatever the client prefers. If you cannot learn on the job, it will be rough because the training provided does not help you once on client site.

Pros

Co-workers; well-known brand; good benefits; large company so potential to experience many different kinds of business units.

Cons

Company leaders are wholly focused on shareholder price and looking good on the outside to the exclusion of everything else. Lots of spinning of image to look relevant, but on the inside staff are struggling to complete work with antiquated hardware and inadequate software tools. Many layers of process to complete a request. Frequent lay-off programs and stacked ranking evaluation systems either frighten employees into working themselves to death or pit them against each other to get a better ranking. Staff are constantly told to 'get exposure' to upper management so when ranking time comes around they will not be just a faceless headcount to cut. Raises, bonuses are infrequent; pay low to average.
