      Pros

      You can be part of something much bigger. Very few companies have the history and breadth and market impact of IBM. Working for IBM means you can be part of a company that sets an agenda in business and society. Plus, you can be attached to some of the great societal work IBM is working on.

      Cons

      IBM's great strength, it's size and market impact, can also be challenging. It's very hard to navigate within the company to find where one site, where the real work is getting done on a particular project, etc. Plus, it's so big it can sometimes trip on itself. Multiple people are often working on virtually the same projects, so redundant work is common. Finally, processes can be overwhelming.

      IBM is an innovation driven firm, focused on sustainable growth and the continuous evaluation and development at the enterprise, brand and employee levels. IBM provides extremely competitive health care and 401(k) benefits, a mentoring program and substantial training and development opportunities. There are ample career paths to choose from at IBM. At IBM you are provided the tools to make your career your own.

      Cons

      As a member of a extremely large company it is easy to feel as only a number. While there are ample career paths, it can be challenging to navigate to a significantly different career path. The salary compensation appears to be average.

      Good impressions of a well established international corporate business

      Pros

      IBM has impressed me with their commitment to diversity. The company has so many interesting projects in development and combine viewpoints from international employees as well as those within the US. The resources available on site are quite sufficient for research and personal development and the location of the site is ideal for anyone interested in live music, making for a good work/life balance opportunity.

      Cons

      Apparently there are some divisions that do work longer hours, but I have not experienced this personally. I find that those who work longer weeks are a bit too committed to their work. I have found that the managers are quite flexible when it comes to their employees' schedules.
