Pros

Management supports working from home. Good group of people to work with.

Cons

Frequent layoffs. Gradual shift of workers from US to India. Understaffed for amount of work. Poor communication from project managers. Unreasonable project schedules that have just become a joke. No sense of big picture, everything is week to week survival. Upper management seems to be only concerned with profit and their stock options. Difficult to see where you fit in such a large corporation. Can easily have first line manager be in some other geography hundreds of miles away. Working remotely from the main group can leave workers feeling isolated and lost.

Pros

IBM has a strong SW portfolio with good positioning within services and hardware segments. Hi investments on research. Company with good values. It's good to work in a company with long term relationship with customers. IBM has in mind the future and is not likely to take controversial decisions that can damage your reputation in the market.

Cons

Professional recognition is not clear. Been apart of the ERP, CRM and other business brings an unfair challenge to the SW Group sales team in General Business marketplace. The managers at IBM don't have any power to change or to propose big changes and are locked performing forecasting and taking care of burocratic workload. Too much talk and too low real action.

Pros

Everyone knows that you are working for a great company and you are looked upon for leadership based on your experience. Using the knowledge and skills learned from my time at GBS, I was did well in an MBA program -- post-consulting career. The personal perks include: airmiles and hotel points.

Cons

As a consultant, you are more in tune with the client. Its also difficult to get noticed by your managers for jobs well done. If you are not careful completing all necessary administrative work, it may mean the difference between a great bonus or an alright one. IBM does not allow you to collect American Express points.
