Pros

Good reputation, and plenty of scope for taking different roles and moving around. Generally very good quality colleagues to work with - there is very little 'dead wood' here apart from the internal IBM bureaucracy.

Cons

Poor morale due to promised bonuses and payrises not being delivered to high performers, despite record profits. Constant pressure to book all hours of the week, but no overtime and scant recognition either financial or otherwise. In particular the management are driving the environment and morale to the bottom to encourage higher levels of voluntary attrition. Mobility requirement in services business puts a lot of pressure on family life and there's no understanding or appreciation from any level of management. That's OK if compensation and morale is good - but it isn't.

Pros

IBM values their employees. Employees are compensated well, both in their salary and medical and health benefits. Employees are provided an opportunity for advancement all over the world. If you are requested to transfer to a new location, they make the entire process as painless as possible. They help with the sale of your current residence, provide interim living expenses, help with the purchase of your new residence and even subsidize a lower interest rate on your new mortgage. They provide all of the resources necessary in order for you to complete your work.

Cons

The only difficult period was during the troubling 1990’s. At that time, IBM was forced to abandon their “Full Employment Principle” and initiate the Ranking System, whereby, periodically; the lower 5% of the workforce was dismissed.
