      A great place for consultancy with an abundance of resources at your disposal.

      Pros

      Brand recognition, and instant credibility on engagements. Also, the company has a world-wide presence. Thus, you could be tapped to go on an international engagement; or, you could lead a data recovery team in the Gulf states. The place has a lot of opportunties.

      Cons

      Huge technology services firm, and so you are rated with EVERYONE at your level. Plus, the pay slowly matriculates upward. The bonuses are fair, but I'd like to have more pay and not worry about looking elsewhere.

      Don't work at IBM Canada

      Pros

      The working from home option is the only good thing about working at IBM Canada. IBM Canada does seem to employ a diverse work force.

      Cons

      Below market average for base salaries, very top heavy in management, too many layers of puppet managers whose hands are tired, any remaining benefits seem to be continuously being cut (health benefits, pensions, oncall pay has been halved or expected to be done for free!! etc). No training or education. Heavy out-sourcing to cheaper countries already happenning in a big way - so no long term future at IBM Canada, unless you are in management to manage out-sourcing projects and have skills such as LEAN, SIX-SIGMA etc

      Pros

      I work from home, and I greatly appreciate the time and money it saves me. I don't commute, I don't eat out, I don't incure huge clothing bills or dry cleaning expenses. I also love the flexibility - I can work from anywhere, so I get to travel a lot. I just work during the days and have my nights and weekends to visit with friends and family or sightsee in a new place.. Also, for those who have been around awhile, we get plenty of vacation (I have 4 weeks now and will get 5 weeks shortly).

      Cons

      "Browbeating" is still the classic managerial style. There is a lack of leadership and creativity in management, even though the matrixed nature of the organization really calls for it.
