Pros
Flexibility, Flexibility, Flexibility. Most positions within IBM are virtual, allowing for you to work extremely flexible hours. Need to take a few hours off to hit the links? go for it, as long as you're a performer within the org (Oh, and keep your cell/blackberry with you, though - and you'd better be a performer in the org). Great to have a massive, global enterprise with locations around the world (and the associated leverage). Certainly is a name that gets recognition in conversation with others.
Cons
Work-life balance is challenging and defining when you're at work and not is almost impossible. In my 10 years there, the number of vacations that I took without my laptop were few & far between. This is the cost of the flexibility. Other drawback is with many positions being virtual, takes more effort to network. Also (perhaps unique to my situation), I was consistently underpaid compared to the marketplace for my position and experience - I believe this was primarily due to the bureaucratic way that salaries are handled within the company. This ultimately led to me leaving the company.
