Pros

- Opportunities to work with big clients from the get-go. - Some ambitious, hard-working and friendly colleagues and lots of help and advice from more senior colleagues who have more traction with management.

Cons

- No relevant or useful training. However, you are expected to behave like a trained consultant and are chastised if you make a mistake or don't have enough skills to get onto a project. - Management don't appreciate or know what to do with the skills you have, leaving you feeling undervalued. - Support has to be sought out. No monitoring of projects, meaning issues inevitably arise and the management do not understand the situation. - No path for career development and no real feeling of achievement. - Real lack of diversity; the vast majority of employees are from the same background with the same skills, making it very hard to integrate with existing staff. - Seemingly no communication between managers and lack of transparency with employees. - Often treated more like a utilisation number than a person, and management don't make time to understand your situation. - Lack of morale; no-one really enjoys their work or projects and there are people leaving or looking for a new job every week. - No option for flexi-time or working from home unless under extreme circumstances. - Not enough projects for certain roles, however you are then made to feel like you are not doing enough. - Highly unprofessional working environment. The office does not feel like an adult workplace; university is actually more professional. - No pension, benefits or rewards.

Pros

Great people, well known brand, deep pockets, complex projects and good learning experience. Global reach means lots of opportunity if you're willing to travel. Reinventing itself in some really leading edge technologies such as AI, cognitive computing, cloud, deep analytics. Few constraints on work location or work style. Very wide array of jobs, can reinvent yourself and have many careers within the same company. Competitive salaries.

Cons

Complex and difficult to navigate Recently seen as "old tech", not a glamour brand Wall Street hates IBM and IBM tries to manage to Wall Streets needs over its customers and employees Leads to regular "Resource Actions" and divestitures which can be unsettling. People disappear overnight! Flexible working means constant working. Very easy to be sucked into an unhealthy dork life balance.
