Pros

The benefits and perceived respect for IBM in the marketplace.

Cons

Unless you reside in the ivory tower in Armonk, you are just a serial # to this company. Management is a joke. They are not respected, because generally speaking, most of them are incompetent. They rely on their team to make them look good, so when it comes time for recognition, they have no problem accepting it for themselves, rather than passing it on to those who "truly" deserve it. The PBC rating system (yearly review) is a joke, it is a luck of the draw exercise. I have found that in 10 years with the company, it seems we spend more time trying to justify our employment by making sure our powerpoint presentations look pretty and also that the data presented to executives is as "accurate as possible". Employee morale is horrible. It has become a depressing company to work for.

Pros

No Pros as of now.

Cons

Please do not join IBM i team at any cost. Manager is the torch bearer of negativity here. The development is totally unorganised. The project is transferred from USA to India and there was no proper KT. And the manager does not have the patience to build the team. Please do not join in any team under him. He works like a detective to find fault in your work and he uses all his creativity to write negative feedback in checkpoint. There are multiple teams under this manager starting from Java, MQ, NodeJS and Networking. New Compiler team is going to be formed soon. Please stay away from such toxic team. During interview they will be really sweet and will tell you false things about the work. If you want to join, please join at your own risk.

Pros

When you have a great manager that protects you from upper management nonsense, its great

Cons

Here's the real reason I'm posting. 1. They've stopped 401k matching (6%) and have switched to a "Retirement benefit account" that matches 5% of your salary. The downside is two-fold, returns in the RBA pegged at 3% and you have zero choice in how its invested. If you're early to mid career this is a massive loss. Also because its an RBA and not a 401k you don't have the same protections and choice if something happens to IBM, at least with a 401k its your account, the RBA stays withing IBM's control until you leave 2. The return to office is extremely sloppy, sites not having enough workspace, "come into the office or resign" ultimatums...all of this because of poor planning
