Pros

Competitive salary and nice offices

Cons

I've been with IBM for over four years, and even the management during COVID was concise and clear. I used to love it. Now, for over six months, we're in some unofficial, ambiguous hiring freeze. There was some restructuring going on, and the budget for 2023 was supposed to be announced in February 2023. Then March 2023. It's April 2023 and there is STILL no budget for 2023. Meanwhile, IBM boasts 4,4% growth in revenue, and executives are sending out general e-mails demanding excellence. My team has been understaffed since Q4 2022, and there is ongoing employee turnover - things are expected to worsen. Grandious failure of executives to communicate anything about the budget and plans for 2023. I am unbelievably disappointed in IBM and its management. They pretend that all is well, have the ignorance to demand maximum performance from their employees, but ignore our daily reality. I will not work a minute overtime to compensate for their inability to manage until some form of official communication addresses my concerns. I do not recommend joining IBM at this point in time.

Pros

Plenty of training and access to a Udemy business account as well as the company paying for certifications.

Cons

Management constantly belittling employees causing damage to the mental health of those employees while the behavior is never addressed. Spent over 3 years with the company and they provided me and others with no actual projects, just had us changing training topics every week or two, gaining surface level knowledge without any practical experience. All practical experience I gained was doing projects on my own time after work hours because I was simply told "Learn X on Udemy" This made it incredibly difficult to speak to ones abilities when finding a new job on top of the dread of opening my laptop every day. On top of walking back their remote work policy and having me go back to spending 2+ hours a day in traffic that I could instead be spending with my family. It never felt like a team environment with everyone stuck on Udemy with their headphones on anyway. Got calls regularly on weekend evenings (8-9 pm)to design and develop features that weren't urgent just because one of the architects didn't have anything else to do and wanted us to work on these features right away and not charge the client for those hours worked. Compensation is about half of what it should be and getting a raise is like pulling teeth even if you meet all of the requirements.

Pros

IBM name looks "beautiful" in anyone´s CV.

Cons

This is the worst company you can work for: training, tools, managers, benefits, flexibility, etc.. NOTHING is good in this company. It is like they are living in the stone age, treating their employees as slaves, demanding demanding demanding, but not giving anything in return (just the salary, which in any other company could be way higher). It is completely disorganized, from the very beginning you are thrown to "the lions" without a proper training about what your role involves, or what tools you need.. You need to figure it out ALL ON YOUR OWN!! But at the same time your manager will start to demand results (even when you don't have A CLUE about what you need to do because nobody trains you). As a sales person you cover MANY (if not ALL) the products of IBM, which is impossible to learn because there are THOUSANDS of them, but they ask you to talk with any type of clients, like if you are a robot knowing ALL the products of the company. And when seeking for help, nobody knows anything, no even your manager, you can spend a whole day just trying to figure out WHO can take care of a customer request (for example).. People don´t care at all about the customers because IBM itself doesn't care at all about its customers, and even less, about its employees!! Many people have been in the company for many years, even DECADES and they got used to the "culture" of the company which is "Be selfish and work on your own'' - NO collaborative, friendly, fresh environment, it is all the contrary: you need literally to fight with people to get your job done! Many people are like they don't care at all about anything, you could BEG them to get their help (my job depends on many people), and it is like talking to the wall!!! And the worst part is that MANAGERS know all the situation and do NOTHING to try to improve the environment.. Many managers that I am aware of, and my own manager too, have no clue about what they are doing, they are very restrictive, micromanaging, don´t listen to their people, and everything needs to be done THEIR way.. Trying to control EVERYTHING!!!! Two days MANDATORY we need to go to the office: Days that THEY chose, not the ones that you want. No flexibility in working from another country, and they recently informed us about some "IRISH NEWS" which states that supposedly Sales people cannot work a SINGLE DAY in another country... They really think their employees are not smart enough to KNOW this is just a BIG LIE!!! and instead of saying: IBM DOES NOT WANT you to work from another country, they just make a laughable LIE and pretend all of us fall for it. Additionally, the offices in Dublin are very very far from the city, there is no easy way to get there and they have an "IBM Bus" that you need to PAY: 6 euro return ticket!!!! (FOR REAL!!!) - It is just unbelievable... Once in the office NOTHING is for free, you even need to pay for a cup of coffee or tea!!! But even like that, they demand people to go to the office! (What incentive would we have to go to the office???). To top it all, for Christmas Celebration they prepare a "special meal" which WE HAD TO PAY!! (Of course... In IBM NOTHING is for free!!!). And we didn´t receive ANYTHING, no appreciation card, no bonuses, no dinner, nothing.. It is a very MEAN company!! Any new hire starts with enthusiasm, excitement, wanting to give their best, very happy... and it is just matter of few months (or even few weeks) and you can see how IBM changes people´s behaviour, they either leave the company or become bitter, selfish, angry in order to survive in the "HEALTHY CULTURE" of the company.. In a nutshell, if you are considering applying to this company.. Simply DON´T!!!
