Pros

IBM has impressed me with their commitment to diversity. The company has so many interesting projects in development and combine viewpoints from international employees as well as those within the US. The resources available on site are quite sufficient for research and personal development and the location of the site is ideal for anyone interested in live music, making for a good work/life balance opportunity.

Cons

Apparently there are some divisions that do work longer hours, but I have not experienced this personally. I find that those who work longer weeks are a bit too committed to their work. I have found that the managers are quite flexible when it comes to their employees' schedules.

Pros

And endless scope and area to develop a person career. Unlike many competing company where career area available for changes and availability to do so. Many competing company do not have breadth and depth of areas to work on. For example.. if one wishes to pursue career in an another area, this company is where it will provide ypou options to learn and try different area. It is highly encourage to learn and explore. Where-as the competing companies make it difficult to move from one position to another with same company. IBM is like a min country within. Its upto an employee to make or break..most of the time.

Cons

The biggest one being is the salaries, they tend to be at 80% of the market level.. which for some is a significant gap. If IBM were to narrow this gap, then folks may stick around more.. but then there maynot be more position available. Other downside is, the company being so large, its like an elephant when it comes to responding to market needs/situation.

Pros

Great opportunity to learn and pursue skill development(incl. well established educational and e-learning oportunities); Global company(with many locations all over); Good awareness of virtual teams, cross-division and cross-culture collaboration. As a global company that sells all over and is not only focuses on a single market/region, great potential to do fine over time and not be dependent on the economy ups and downs in a single region. There are various innovative venues for employees to show their ideas and collaborate with others- incl. Blue Opportunity and BizTeck projects which enable you to take some of your weekly time and work on a cool project with a team other than your regular job' team.

Cons

Too big of a company to get noticed or to find who works on what and who to talk to.
