Pros

You can work from home a lot of the time and while in different cities. There are lots of training (classes) provided by IBM you can take. Managers are flexible on you taking time off work to take care of person errands. After IBM your resume will have lots of name recognition.

Cons

They have been gradually outsourcing lots of software development work to India and China. Its only a matter of time before they will no longer have software developers here in the US. PBC ratings completely unfair. Management basically rates your performance against the entire organization and not individual performance.

Pros

The total compensation package is good and there are plenty of good people to work for and with. There's a wide variety of work to do within IBM, so there are sometimes good opportunities to change jobs internally.

Cons

Not the stable job it once was. Regular layoffs are a matter of course now, and indications are that those jobs will move overseas and not return to the US. Since IBM seems more interested in buying new technology instead of creating it, you're better off being in a company bought by IBM if you want new technology experience. IBM cares much more about the stock and how the world perceives it than how employees feel about the company, and that leads to poor products and support.

Pros

If you're just starting out in your career it can be a great place to network with a lot of people in your field. You can sample a lot of different job types just by talking to people. They have great mentors that are really helpful. You have to take the initiative to find a great mentor though. They have a lot of internal tools that can be very useful, they can also be a pain to learn since there are so many of them. Web 2.0 technologies are being adopted by IBM and there's definitely a lot of cutting edge stuff you can get involved in IF you join the right team. Good benefits and flexible work hours/location.

Cons

Upper management could care less about the low level employees. Layoffs will hit your department at least once every two years, if not more often. Good performance ratings won't save anyone either. If you don't want to be a small fish in a big pond then IBM will not be for you - nor will any large company. There's a lot of politics and processes that keep things from moving along. The day after laying off thousands of employees Sam will tell the president of the US that creating new "21st century jobs" is important and something that IBM is doing.
