The layoffs were handled quietly and unexpectedly, even though there were some early signs. They didn’t share who else was affected, but it was clearly more than just me.

In some cases, being in the wrong team can mean there are practically no pros, which is why team allocation becomes very critical.

Cons

Work culture varies heavily depending on the team, especially in teams dependent on Japan stakeholders where communication is mostly verbal and expectations are unclear. Strong preference for bilingual resources, sometimes leading to unequal recognition despite differences in technical expertise. Unrealistic timelines due to limited technical understanding from decision-makers. Poor work-life balance, including work during personal leave and calls at odd hours like weekends. Limited salary growth, with increments typically around 3–4%. Difficulty in escalating concerns, with feedback not always being received constructively. Overemphasis on basic tools like Excel, even in an era where advanced technical skills are more relevant.
