Pros

Unlimited PTO, free meals, cool office aesthetics, smart colleagues, some friendly people to work with.

Cons

When I first started, Indeed had more of a laid back "startup" feel. That started to fade away when it grew tremendously in 2016, 2017, 2018, etc. Indeed has a "no jerks" policy, but that didn't seem to be applied as much as the years went on. Top talent people from the West and East Coast were brought in for brainpower, but with that often came huge egos and underdeveloped emotional intelligence/social skills. Entitled "geniuses" started roaming around the office. Pay was also quite low for my department. Some departments might of been different, but they claimed all of the cushy techy perks were justification for below average pay. This was in Austin when the housing/rent prices began skyrocketing as an influx of transplants kept rolling in. Management was pretty incompetent in my department. Lots of favoritism and college cliquey vibes that got unqualified people promoted if they were within that clique. There was a lot of pressure to hang out at the office as much as possible. It was a good gig for recent grads, but a lot of people had their entire lives and identifies embedded in the Indeedian work culture. If you didn't want to partake in all of that, it was a bit to your disadvantage. Depending o

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, and your years of service to Indeed. We’re happy to see that you recommend us as a great place to work. It is also our priority to make sure we are listening and acting on the concerns and suggestions of our staff, as they are the ones who help build us up as a company, and are our biggest and most valuable assets. We care deeply about our employee experience and want everyone to feel like they belong and are valued for the work they do at Indeed. Our managers are held accountable in our business to their leadership roles and we continuously monitor that through engagement surveys and manager performance reviews. These conversations also help us identify team members who deserve recognition for the work they’re doing, and those who might need a bit more support to get to where they want to be. We strongly encourage employees to have 1:1 skip-level manager check-ins if facing problems, as well as reaching out to their HRBP so they are aware and can provide feedback upwards as well. If you would like to share more via a confidential chat, please email our team at inside@indeed.com.

Pros

nice in-office perks with tons of free food, well appointed offices, frequent office events, strong purpose and brand, generally open communications from senior management

Cons

Oof....where to start. The recruiting blitz is strong and they strive for a 6 star experience if you make it to an interview. Salaries are toward the lower end from what I heard and what I learned as a hiring manager although manages are not allowed to know what their employees earn. They strive to make up for lower salaries in perks. (Not sure how that is going in these wfh days.) For a while, they were hiring like gangbusters with new employees getting a fresh Macbook Air. So you have a lot of young people without much structure running around looking busy but without much direction or results. The demographics and age range definitely slants younger and there is a lot 'coaching' asked of managers. There is also an emphasis in performance management with repeated feedback both up and down. However, this gives a disproportionate amount of leverage to lower level staff who in many ways have become entitled and coddled. And too many avenues for people to push back on their managers covertly. This creates a very superficial environment with happiness on the outside but a lot of back stabbing behind the scenes. It's unfortunate as the mission and progressiveness of the company are in the right place. The Indeed brand and marketplace standing are strong and the Japanese holding company who owns Indeed is throwing money at it like it's going out of style. (This must be a classic pump and dump strategy to sell this firm.) I would avoid jobs in program management as they are frequently glorified admins. The Product side is generally strong. Like any job, proceed at your own risk. In full disclosure, I'm an experienced middle manager with a strong CV who was there 15 months and couldn't get out fast enough.

Pros

- Customer-focused company: if you don't understand why are you doing something, it's either you're doing something completely wrong (and better to raise it up immediately), or you just don't know something (and better to learn in ASAP) - Almost no communications barriers: you could directly approach anybody, directly go and even edit almost any information source and codebase - and that would be very much welcomed - Processes in the company are a great help and not the obstacle to almost anything you'll want to do be it some personal stuff or some initiative - Unlimited PTO was a great thing for me for personal things - I'm guilty to borderline abuse it:) - Truly international company with huge amount of people from US, China (including new grads), Japan (including new grads), and literally countries all across the globe (Brazil, Israel, Spain, Singapore to name a few) - Data-based everything from evaluation presentations to product decisions to interviews

Cons

- Tokyo office steadily becomes an execution office with all the interesting/impactful work steadily been moved to US - I'd suggest to avoid Japanese managers: even if they're great people in person, I'm not aware of a single case when they didn't brought Japanese-style management under guise: shift responsibility, blame your team, micromanage, boss around etc. That doesn't apply to non-Japanese managers who are majority. - Advise: impact matters above everything else. Management don't communicate it clearly, so expect to adjust first quarter or two. Optimise for maximum impact with minimal effort, push back everything else.
