Pros

As an Account Manager you do get to know the IT distribution industry. Work hours is reasonable.

Cons

No Training Materials given. Constant Headache on the phones. Some account managers dont have a first clue about IT and pass the query to product managers and give them grief for not being quick enough. Can't be too friendly with customers. Staff members grass, especially when you talk to the opposite sex on the other end of the phone.

Pros

I got several raises in the first year. My salary increased by 4K in one year. There is room for growth and the company is focused on employee development. Contact with new technologies and training is always available.

Cons

The culture in tech support is high pressure. People who make too many mistakes get fired for even the smallest returns on products. More than half of the tech support reps are "Champs" which seems good until you get into the position. You still have to take the same number of calls, and run projects for vendors without requesting overtime.

A once great company gone horribly wrong.

Pros

Great people, plenty of incentives and great exposure to technology. Good benefits, although they have been significantly downgraded over the years. A great stepping stone to better companies in the industry.

Cons

Constant threat of downsizing, their margins are just too thin now. Company executives are more focused on managing their own careers than the business - politics are very heavy and there is no loyalty to anyone. You are literally used, then discarded. I spent many years there, however now that I'm out the clarity of how bad it has become comes through. Salaries are being reduced in sales, more emphasis on a 50/50 split (salary vs commissions) which means you earn less when the unattainable quotas come out. Just remember the TTC (target income) they tell you is now a pipe dream. The bad guys tend to win in management at Ingram.
