Pros

Intuit as a whole is very flexible about work and life. - "Work/Life balance" is one of the core values and managers get called on it when work gets unreasonable - Most engineers have the opportunity to telecommute and many people have at least one designated "work from home" day a week. Great benefits and compensation - Right up there with the other industry big hitters - Stock purchase plan that's a no-brainer - Very generous benefits that also will include a long-term partner Other perks - "White space" time that can be used for your pet projects (~4 hrs a week) - semi-annual Idea Jam competitions to get together and hack out new ideas with new technologies - 32 hours of paid time/year for volunteer work

Cons

Intuit is a sort of stealth brand; if you want people to know who you work for you always end up saying something like "Quickbooks? Quicken? TurboTax?... Yeah, those people." Not everyone gets to work on sexy new technology; C++ still pays a lot of the bills. Depending on your group, you may spend a lot of time in meetings. Every software lifecycle strategy out there can be found somewhere at Intuit. Not every team has bought into Scrum, Agile, or XP (Extreme Programming). Intuit isn't really an international brand, so you won't find too much chance to travel abroad if you're not senior management.

Pros

The work atmosphere is awesome. There is a heavy emphasis on work-life balance so you never feel overly pressured or stressed out. The people are some of the most laid back and easy to work with people that I've met in the hypercompetitive software industry.

Cons

No matter how you dice it, few people will think that financial software is a "sexy" thing to work on. It's difficult to relate to the product unless you are a former accountaint. Furthermore, I worked on Quickbooks, an business software package, which is even harder for me to relate to than quicken or turbotax, both of which I have used. Also, having worked at a startup after Intuit, I realized that the pace of development at Intuit is pretty slow. I think this is a result of the bloated, old codebase, the size of the company, and the nature of shipping desktop software. In my experience, the downsides of Intuit are systematic to its particular field and not necessarily a fault of management or how the company is run.
