Pros

It has great benefits and trys to make an effort towards work-life balance. It used to be much better. It is also trying to move into newer technologies. Has good revenue base from market leading products Quickbooks, TurboTax and Quicken.

Cons

There are some good places to be and some not so good. The environment is gettiing very toxic and fearful at least in our part of the ocean as any negative feedback about the work is taken as an indictment of management and then on you are under the microscope. People who keep quiet are being rewarded and people who speak up are given the silent or not-so-silent treatment. Co-workers are great , the products are good but the new crop of management hired in the last few years is very short term oriented and prone to knee jerk reactions. New People often ask me as to "how come it rates so high on the great place to work survey?" My response is that - it really used to be.

Pros

You get to work on products that everyone knows. It's nice being able to chat with local businesses or nieghbors about their experiences (good or bad). Fantastic company for work/life balance. New CEO, Brad Smith, is making necessary changes and setting a new, intelligent course for the company. We haven't been growing as much as we should be, and Brad's direction will change that. Excellent support for working on and considering your creative/innovative ideas. Most engineering groups get 20% of their time to work on a project of their creation. The company also runs one day competitions every month or two to provide another place for people to create new projects and get them visibility so they may get funded.

Cons

If you're not at one of the major sites your upward movement is limited. Company needs to get better at organic growth.

Pros

We care and give back - A week off each year to do work in the community or for charity. Great benefits. Starbucks on-campus. Work-Life balance. For real - it's not just talk here. Supportive organization. Career development is important. Quarterly reviews and goal setting. Great management practices.

Cons

There is an opportunity to innovate more to drive future growth. There is a push to correct this, though. Some management in the middle of the organization could use better training. Front line managers don't have the same effectiveness as the senior leaders. The best welder in a group shouldn't be made a manager of welders.
