Pros

-Very demanding so learnt a lot -Started off my career with a low benchmark for what a full-time job is like and gave me low expectations from a company. Henceforth this has made me really appreciate what working in a nice company is like and has made me more tolerant of negative aspects because this one was so brutal.

Cons

-Long and unappreciated working hours. Rarely thanked for your work and looked down on if you left within contractual working hours. -Had a 1:1 performance review with my manager twice during the year I was there and both were largely critical and negative experiences. -Everyone felt on edge and under extreme pressure all the time. -Horrible, negative, toxic atmosphere. -The team I was in was understaffed so about 6 of us had to do work for about twenty especially as people kept leaving. -Constantly undermined by manager and honestly called stupid -Incredibly low wages despite the arduous work put in which is demonstrative of how ungrateful and unappreciated we were. -Poor opportunities for career progression and the salary bonuses offered were pathetic. -No focused training provided on the job. You had to learn as you went and were treated like an idiot if you made mistakes/asked too many questions.

Pros

Nothing much really. It is good to get a big brand name on your CV. Study leave is reasonable. The wages were okay.

Cons

Lots of bullying goes on, very little is done about it. Partners and Directors are cut-throat and ruthless, they will throw you under the bus in a heartbeat. I couldn't stand this image Marketing and HR protrayed that we were all one big happy family.

Pros

you get "Big 4" public accounting experience on your resume. You also get plenty of experience dealing with difficult and demanding clients. As in, clients who

Cons

overbearing, draconian, corrupted management Accountants who believe they are god's gift to humanity (these people truly think they are on the same level with brain surgeons and mechanical engineers) EXTREMELY political internal networking (have to pucker up and kiss the right behinds to get ahead) Lots of 1st year associates sleeping their way up the career ladder (physical favors provided to partners in exchange for promotion and cushy job assignments) gotta give a little head if you intend to get ahead There are lots of cronyism and mafia like atmosphere (like house of cards or the godfather). Politics will trump Merit every time. Also lots of fraternity type of behavior (big schools have a strong social network here. If you don't belong to an a major alumni association then you will never truly fit in). Diversity is big so you had better have some diversity in you to make it in the big leagues Partners think that 3-4 hours of sleep per night is plenty for seniors If you think that the big 4 oligopoly is your dream job think again. There is going to be another major accounting scandal in the near future ....
