Pros

I was able to move up in Lam with some efforts on my part. At 1st I was in the Training Department then got the opportunity to move over to tech support in Engineering. Enjoyed the travel and support while assigned and eventually move up to Engineering Manager in Tech Support.

Cons

Travel was a bit much and after some big dips in the industry had to take on lower jobs. I was never able to recover and certain Managers were not truthful and basically deceitful. This was not the hole company as I still enjoyed my time. Was let go while on the road. Should have been brought home as I had to go through trying to get back home and I had the question of will I be paid to go home. HR helped out and got me home with the pay for the days after layoff. Manger at that point did not have my respect.

Pros

Growing stock price, healthy ESPP, good health benefits. Strong leadership still can be found in parts of the company.

Cons

Top heavy, significant dwindling bonuses and perks year to year for non-execs, lack of core values which are heavily marketed

Pros

So far my bosses have been rather hands off as long as I deliver desirable results. So I have some freedom to do things the way I want to and think about my steps critically. Compensation seems to be pretty competitive. I think management has been pretty generous with rewarding top performers with incentives, such as RSUs and additional cash bonus (on top of base bonus). These are nice ways to recognize hard work and top-notch performance.

Cons

Things move very fast and so do directions. So work can be really stressful and chaotic most of the time. Work-life balance is totally off. Very little mentoring from bosses and management. The promotion process is not transparent. Unless you really push for it, there is never really a conversation between an employer and the command chain to understand what one needs to do in order to move up to the next level. This is seriously frustrating. There is little recognition for technical excellence, which is often is the key to delivering outstanding process and products. Much more recognition is devoted to people who manage customers and market products. Not very fair!
