Pros

Lam has excellent core values, and a high fraction of the workforce truly practices them. My colleagues at Lam are the most talented group of engineers I've ever worked with, and I always feel technically challenged.

Cons

Jobs in the semiconductor fabrication equipment industry tend to impose a brutal work load, and most jobs at Lam Research are no exception: Pressure is intense, hours are very long, and sympathy is nonexistent. No matter how hard I work, or how great my family's sacrifice, I am made to feel like I'm not doing enough for the company.

Pros

The people that work there are truly supportive, professional, and a joy to work with. The compressed work schedule is awesome that facilitates a nice work-life balance. Pay is on par with other companies but discounted stock options, 2 bonuses a year, overtime pay (5th day you get time and a half for a 12-hour shift), and supplemental OT bonuses for certain days will really increase the paycheck. Consequently, some Technicians who put in the extra hours will make more than the Supervisor they work for. Many opportunities for promotions.

Cons

12-hour shifts are not for everyone, especially the night shift. However, one gets used to it. There are differences in following policies between shifts that result in some shifts picking up other shifts' slack which can be frustrating. Like any big corporation, communication is at times difficult between shifts. Accountability seems to not be enforced by management.
