Pros

Working for a growing, global organization brings lots of opportunities for experience. With most groups in the company, you can get as much experience as you want and in a number of different areas. Most everyone in a non-sales department can have the opportunity to get project management experience in one way or another. Process improvement is also highly regarded. Working with international colleagues & strategic partners is good experience for anyone to have in today's business climate.

Cons

Culture clash is highly evident. The China-side of the business is largely separated from the rest, but when you do interface with them they appear to be very helpful and competent. There is a lot of mixing of IBM, Dell, and "other" (i.e., non-IBM/Dell) management styles which ends up making for a very inefficiently-cooperating collection of teams. As a side effect from the IBM business, the major functional groups tend to be very silo'd; a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Many managers tend to micromanage to the point of suffocation, or being overly strict about enforcing policies. On the other hand, some managers tend to be so far removed from their employees that they don't see each other for months. There is little happy medium in management, so pick your poison. On the whole, they do not value internal talent and have little long-term focus around their people. For several years following the acquisition, teams were whittled down and positions removed while that workload was added to existing employees, with little regard to the effect on those employees. Some of the more talented people I had the pleasure of working with were either laid off or left due to frustration with management & lack of support or advancement. Performance-based raises were almost non-existent, although at least bonuses performed according to your region's fiscal performance & the overall company's fiscal performance. While one's personal experience would vary greatly depending on the quality of their direct management, in the end, the overall poor leadership & utilization of internal talent would disillusion anyone.

Pros

The company offers a good pay rate and good healthcare benefits. The option to work from home 2 days a week is appreciated.

Cons

Lenovo has a bad habit of letting people go without any real reason other than to pad their bottom line. Their executive team from China does not communicate well with the American market and offers no long-term roles in their company. If you are in the job market (IT) field look elsewhere, perhaps an American company like Dell? You will be expected to work 3 days in the office and no one here will even talk to you. Best believe, it's because no one has enough time to socialize in the office, because of unreasonable metrics that must be met. Premier warranty will oftentimes require 2 to 3 on-site tech visits to fix a simple part on a customer machine, leading to angry customers that you must navigate carefully. Lenovo won't replace the laptop even if the on-site repair Tech. ended up causing the damage you'll notice cases getting escalated to a TAM and then you will have to wait to share the bad news that a replacement of your device is not available based upon ($). You'd be better off getting your PC replaced by a small local computer repair business. The Chinese will micromanage every little thing you do. Those who are critical thinkers and willing to assist the customer and do the extra work to troubleshoot will be looked at closely if you have a long call. Corporate greed is the norm meanwhile a round of layoffs and bonuses for the top execs is the norm. I would not recommend working for Lenovo.

Pros

Lenovo is an awesome company to work for due to the international experience and the incredibly talented individuals that work there. You will learn a ton and get some of the best global supply chain experience out there. The work is extremely fast paced and demanding which makes each day challenging yet rewarding in ways. The office is pretty sweet and the benefits are awesome...4 months of paternity leave is beyond incredible.

Cons

Until you reach a certain band level at Lenovo I do not believe that you are fairly compensated...actually I know for a fact you are not. This is solely due to the amount of hours you will be working. Minimum 60 hour work weeks and depending on what team you are on it can easily get up to 75 hours a week. International time zones are no joke and for some reason Lenovo relies heavily on the teams in China to own lots of processes therefore causing individuals to work all hours of the night. Meetings take place way into the night in order to catch the teams in China online. It is a daily grind and the work never ends, truly a 24/7 role. There are not many opportunities for promotions for the deserving individuals which caused people to leave our team because they were tired of not being rewarded for the impact they have made.
