      A Good Career in Engineering

      Pros

      Lockeed Martin is a highly ethical company. Not only that, they are concerned with their impact on the community and the environment. They are great in terms of work-life balance, with flex time, telecommuting and work at home options.

      Cons

      As with most large companies, raises and promotions aren't entirely merit-based. The system is designed to meet market-averages for salary and position over time (performance based), which doesn't translate into rapid results.

      Pros

      Lots of opportunities, several different business units to work for, several leadership programs for entry level and mid-career level employees. OK benefits except for the new health care plan they're forcing everyone to adopt.

      Cons

      Large corporate beauracracy can't be avoided in a company this size, but a lot of the process of getting through to senior management is different between business units.

      Pros

      Great products that support our country. Overall it is a fairly secure place to work, although one where it is easy to get complacent. It seems that in the past 5-6 years, there has been a noticeable change in atmosphere and past "silo" type mentalities are slowly being broken down. The technologies are impressive, and fun to work with. The people are good, with a lot of former military, and there is a great sense of duty and responsibility that permeates all levels of the company.

      Cons

      Promotion process is rather "by the book" and there is not much working with that. Exceptional talent will have to perform first, and then be rewarded.
