Pros

It is a very steady job with almost no risk of being laid off or fired. You could get away with working only 40 hours a week with no repercussions.

Cons

Working in a union environment is very frustrating. Even the salaried (non-union) careers feel like everything has to be too fair because it is such a big corporation. There is no separation of employees who work harder than others.

Pros

Lockheed Martin is one of the most respected engineering companies in the world. Employees take a lot of pride in producing the highest quality product for the warfighter. It is an amazing career experience being exposed to all the different programs and their products/assemblies everyday. There is a new problem to solve every day on the production floor and there is never a dull moment. There is always plenty of work to do. I like the fact that I am not tied down to my desk all day like some other parts of the engineering world. I am constantly talking to the operators (hourly workers) about how to improve our processes and how to design better tools for them. Manufacturing is a lot of root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and process/efficiency improvement but you still get your fair share of tooling research/design. Although you do not use most of the difficult engineering theories/concepts from school, the job expects you to be a quick learner and problem solver. Work/life balance is very important to the company. Pay is what you'd expect being an engineer in Ocala, FL (low cost of living). There are so many amazing engineering jobs throughout the company. It seems after being in a role for about 2 years, the company wants you to explore new roles either at the same location or new one.

Cons

Ocala has everything you need, but not the most exciting area for a new college grad. However, you are 1.5 hours from Orlando, Tampa, Daytona, 45 min from Gainesville, etc.. Once in a while you are expected to work on off days but you get paid OT which is fair. Working with the Union can be annoying and counter productive at times.
