Pros

I was surrounded by very skilled people. There was almost no deadwood anywhere. Very cool technology. Everywhere the attitude of stepping up to the plate.

Cons

Not sure how they got so many highly skilled people, because their interview process sucked. No one was trained how to perform a good technical interview; random techies were simply asked to look at a few résumés and choose a couple to invite for interviews. The annual performance review process was a time-wasting, unscientific disaster, changed every year and never for the better. Some employees, while very skilled, are completely unaware of recent software development practices.

Pros

Have pushed to make opportunities to learn new things while working here. Advancement is slow, but eventually occurs. The people who work here are phenomenal.

Cons

Middle management is spineless. Pay raises are minimal, benefit costs to employees continue to rise above yearly salary raises. Management continues to expect more and more from employees, by demanding uncompensated overtime and weekend work. Refusal to comply results in Performance Improvement Plans and high pressure to conform to demands. Program Management continually under fund projects and then tell engineers that they are being "challenged" to meet unrealistic deadlines despite being told their expectations are unrealistic. Engineering principles are ignored to achieve the unrealistic schedules. Employees are undervalued and the reality that key individuals are leaving is not important to Management as they are more interested in meeting staffing levels than retaining intellectual knowledge base. At one time this was a good place to work. It has deteriorated with the loss of Senior Management from the CEO level down. Morale is at an all time low. Flex time has been eliminated, working here is like criminal chain gang labor.

Pros

It's a large, stable company so if you perform then you can work here for decades. There can be a lot of flexibility for working hours/schedule... but like many things at Lockheed, it really depends on your specific manager and project.

Cons

This is not the place to be for Software Engineers. Lockheed is a Systems Engineering organization with very little software engineering expertise. Software is considered a tool like Matlab... so leadership has no appreciation for good design. Most of the people writing software are educated in other disciplines (ex. Electrical, Mechanical, Aeronautical Engineering). That would be fine except for the fact that 1000's of lines of unmaintainable code are written every year.
