Pros

Stable job. Pay is bad in absolute terms, but decent for a fresh graduate living in a low cost of living area. Coworkers are generally nice. Management is generally reasonable. Very open to flexible work times, remote unclassified work, etc. Note that Owego was molded by ex-IBM people from Endicott. They imported that culture into Lockheed in Owego when IBM pulled out and Lockheed hoovered up the workers. Other sites may not have this same culture.

Cons

Pay is bad in absolute terms (or relative to e.g. Facebook). Programs are stable, but boring and old. Tech stack is old. Advancement is very slow for individual contributors; it's a bit more open for management, or "movers and shakers." Benefits got nuked by Obamacare shortly before I left.

Pros

Great benefits. Diverse work and project opportunities allow for you to never stagnate or be bored and to continue building skills and interact with different people and build relations. People have complained about HDDP, but I'm finding that I hit the out of pocket max after 4 months (I pay for the max plan). Good work life balance; I plan my weeks really well and focus really hard and have never had to work overtime.

Cons

I started my job the week covid shut down my city, so I've had a hard time getting to know coworkers and have been mostly working remotely. That said, people don't seem to want to talk or share anything about themselves and it's been hard building a work community or getting to know anyone. It's a pretty lonely job overall. Thankfully, I have an amazing manager who really listens and helps me as much as he can. Salary should be more for the area. Lack of diversity among the team.
