Great experience and opportunities to learn and grow. You get to solve tough problems that help protect our great nation. You have the opportunity to learn and excel in disciplines including engineering, leadership and project management. If you are driven then you will have an opportunity to excel.

Cons

Since our primary customers are in defense our opportunities are tied to defense budgets. As defense related budgets contract so will opportunities. Every industry has ups and downs so the question is how long will this downturn last.

Great Company to Grow Skills

Pros

I've been in the industry for a long time and lost my cutting edge skills. When I went to Lockheed, they gave me a chance to grow new ones. System Engineering is now a skill this old coder feels confident in. The company does really cool stuff. The developers they hire are top notch.

Cons

Too much of a Bid to Win mentality, which puts some employees in the mode of mandatory 60 to 70 hour weeks. Also, puts mid level people in uncomfortable situations explaining why they are behind on unrealistic schedules. Note that this is not everywhere.

Pros

Lockheed had good medical, dental and insurance benefits. There was quite a variety of projects and technologies due to the large size of the company.

Cons

Like most defense companies, they have been cutting expenses and that means asking employees to pay a bigger share of insurance costs. Although there are a large number of locations and opportunities, it's not always easy to move between companies and projects.
