Pros

Worked in the defense sector for 30 years for 3 different companies. One of those companies did subcontracting. As a subcontractor I worked three other companies for periods ranging from 3 months to 4 years. Some of the people I worked with at Lockheed were definitely among the smartest and most capable.

Cons

A few of the people I had to deal with at Lockheed were the least capable I encountered in my entire career.

Not worth the career experience

Pros

Great coworkers, annual bonus (which is small compared to companies like Thales, but better than nothing). Benefits are decent.

Cons

Former department played favourites and it negatively affected the team as a whole. Morale was in the toilet because of them and probably still is. Even other departments treaded lightly as to not upset them if employees wanted to move around/outside of that department. They didn't give promotions due to sick leave (illegal) or because they felt there was a line-up for that position (when in reality, they likely didn't want to be shown up by the amazing employee who should've gotten the job). Lockheed is a huge corporation and leaders make well over $300K per year plus annual bonus, but they pay their employees peanuts. Don't settle for the pennies they'll offer you. Their pay bands are also a secret - just another way to prevent employees from being empowered.

Company Declining

Pros

My program had really good people. Work/life balance was pretty good but is on the decline with forced RTO and 9/80s. Can be a good stepping stone - spend a few years here before leveraging that to a higher salary at a better company somewhere else.

Cons

This company, particularly LM Space, is on a noticeable downward trend. RTO mandates, forced 9/80s (ironically after forcing 4/10s a few years prior), bad benefits, increased vesting period, no company outings any longer, etc. The pay is also pretty bad, it's basically on par with the other big defense contractors in the region. Forced full-time office work in a SCIF sucks. Management will never admit it, but many programs are ultimately a "butts in seat" operation. They cannot keep good people on the program since the pay isn't great and full-time on site SCIF work sucks so often times the only ones staying are terrible workers that have no other options.

Tough environment

Pros

Benefits are pretty good. Pay is at market rate for salary and well above market rate for hourly.

Cons

The union runs everything here. Management has a hard time holding people accountable because it is more likely they will get fired than the union represented employee.

Pros

flexible scheduling - 4x10, 9x80, flex etc great benefits understanding management

Cons

sometimes events can be during the night based on availability sometimes, management unwilling/unable to make adjustments to things that affect team progress, whether within the team or from external teams
