Pros

LM has a 9/80 schedule which is so convenient! The hours are great - OT is only needed for special projects and end-of-year closing. Each month we can accrue 10 hours of vacation time, and this never expires. Another perk of this company is how easy it is to talk to upper management. This has improved over the last several years.

Cons

The insurance benefits could definitely be better. I have heard the coverage use to be better, but now it covers less. For people with children on their insurance, it almost feels like the insurance is useless. Another disadvantage is the time it takes to get a promotion. Going from a level 1 to a level 2 takes about 4 years, and from a level 2 to a level 3 takes even longer.

Pros

Good salary ranges. People on the floor up to supervisors are good teams for all production goals.

Cons

Production floor is barely controlled chaos. Upper management tries to drive the production floor by numbers rather than embracing the human element that leaders should consider.

Pros

Good 401k program. Benefits are fairly inexpensive due to the size of Lockheed Martin.

Cons

Lots of nights and weekends. No paid overtime. Top heavy with upper management.

LM IS&GS review

Pros

Big company with a good ability to keep government contracts going = fairly stable. Lots of room to move around and grow. Decent benefits. Upper management seems very capable and proactive. Good ethics in the workplace.

Cons

Lockheed's IS&GS business unit is government services contracts only. That means the profit margin is tight and they nickle and dime their employees to make profit expectations.

Pros

Good medical insurance plan. Makes sense for a huge company. I took work home occasionally, but I did that for myself. There was never pressure to work outside the 40-hour work week, so that's a pro for people with families.

Cons

Maybe the experiences are different when you were hired by the company proper and not absorbed as part of a company that got purchased by them, but I never got the feeling upper management cared about us. It's hard to keep personal morale up with that kind of environment. I thought it was silly that our internal upper management was forced to jump through all the hoops of LM's annual review process, when it was never made clear by any management - ours or LM's - how we could work better, individually or as a team, to increase productivity and be promoted and/or get raises. Not sure if this only applied to us "stepchildren" but I was a team leader and was required to provide feedback on my team members' work. One of our lower management bosses that was handling annual reviews for those staff said she had to change my ratings because there was a specific # of people who could be ranked at the highest level of merit and therefore those who weren't at that level weren't eligible for the best raises. While I realize that's standard in corporate, I did not anticipate this and got out there as soon as I could.

Pros

Great company for incoming college hires. You get to build your resume and experience (again, only if you're early in your career)

Cons

Lots of politics with upper management. VERY hard to get promoted. You basically have to threaten to leave the company in order for someone to consider you for a promotion to keep you. Lots of cuts happening across the business.

Pros

It was great place to work. Good wages and benefits. Coworkers and supervisors were friendly and helpful. Safe, clean, climate controlled working enviorment.

Cons

Upper management was out of touch with conditions on the assembly line which created excess rework, cost overrun, slow production and job insecurity.
