Pros

there are no pros to working at Macys

Cons

This company is a company that exploits it's retail associates on every level. Lets start with the pay. The pay is horrible and no one could live on what they deem 'good' pay. Besides the pay, this company is a controlling dictatorship type regime. The rules are extensive, detailed and suffocating. They literally live to suck the very life out of their employees and crush their souls one day at time. You can only enter and exit through certain doors, you can't talk with your fellow associates, you must do the tasks they tell you to do but if you are in the middle of one and a customer walks up you are supposed to drop what you are doing even if that includes cash handling and opening a register. Co workers, though some are nice some can be bullies and downright nasty. They try to motivate associates with "Macys money" in the lowest amounts (I'm talking $5 folks) which is nothing but insulting to us while the store rakes in millions of dollars off our backs. Offer a real bonus or some time off and then see employees get motivated. Stop the credit card madness. Nobody wants your stupid 25% APR credit card. And you guys are practically criminal for shoving it down every customers throat with not an ounce of shame. What an ugly, ugly company.

Pros

summer fridays (but many departments have too much work and cant take advantage of it) its in san francisco downtown and close to bart, but moving soon and will no longer be as convenient for commuters.

Cons

decisions are made by people who dont have experience outside of this company, old school of thinking in many areas. title matters more than knowledge. technology dept influences many decisions, but its only to keep up with the joneses. technology managers are not experienced technologists. too often problem employees are moved from one department to another. hr cares more about keeping tenured people employed and less about losing talented people. managers react when staff resigns and quickly counter-offers, but the morale and work-load never changes. throwing more money can only do so much, eventually smart people leave and old timers stay.

Pros

Working at a big, familiar American company is kind of cool. Scheduling, paychecks, etc. done online for your convenience (although Insite, the website, is often slow and unruly). There is an employee discount, but you can only use it through your Macy's card account that you are obligated to open.

Cons

"Sales Goals" sometimes unrealistic, and you don't even get paid on commission. You are forced to constantly ask people to open a Macy's account, which most people don't want or need. If you have no customers, you are expected to walk around for hours and make sure everything is in perfect order. Sometimes other employees get pretty cutthroat and steal customers from you just to meet their sales goals/Macy's account requirements.
