Pros

Working at Meltwater has given me the support, freedom, and network to experience business at a level most college graduates do not get the chance to right out of school. Every time I became comfortable in a position I was then asked to step up, putting me out of my comfort zone again to learn new skills. It is an exciting and challenging (but supportive) work environment where you will find colleagues who become lifelong friends.

Cons

The career paths are mostly in sales or account management/leadership. Meltwater is still learning and growing outside of sales and account manager positions but it is happening. You have to WANT to work hard and be intrinsically motivated to succeed at Meltwater. It helps to have a passion for

Pros

If they do not believe in you at the interview they will not employ you. Meltwater has undergone some significant changes in the past 4 years. I can honestly say that the whole experience is brilliant from start to finish. The company makes no illusion that it is not a sales focused role, so if you're prepared for that from the beginning you're going to do very well. The company will support and train you in every aspect of sales that is needed. There is no point in listening to people that say it is a 'boiler room' culture, this simply is not true. Sales is not for everyone, don't apply if you can't commit to some hard work. The commission structure here means that you always come away at the end of every month with a healthy enough pay cheque to live on, but it is completely up to you to work hard and make as much money as possible. It can be done. The products really do sell themselves, the kind of people that you speak to on a day to day basis expect your call, it is their responsibility to buy the best possible service that is available on the market. Meltwater is also well established now, so the likelihood is that they will have heard of Meltwater and appreciate your call. I have read some reviews on here that mention favoritism and the like. This simply isn't true, if you go the extra mile and succeed because of it, you will of course be at the top of the list when it comes to promotion and internal praise. If you have not noticed already, the people that have written mostly negative reviews have been there for a year or less. Unfortunately, it's my belief that they have not tried hard enough, the recruitment process that people go through is not to see if you can simply pick up the phone and talk nicely with a prospective lead. You are assessed on your personality, whether you're a culture fit, and above all how you willing you are to work hard. Some of the most successful people in the organisation didn't have the best first 6-12 months there, but through Management using their skills, they got better. The company also cares a lot about its employees, with regular interaction from the CEO and other senior directors, it is not a faceless organisation. In fact, there is a charitable arm of Meltwater called MEST this is the 'Meltwater Entrepreneur School of Technology' - an organisation set up in Ghana to provide Africans with the opportunity to change the face of accessible technology.

Cons

There are of course issues, as within any company. Poorly timed decisions - which are then reversed or changed again within 6 months. Promoting internally - there are plenty of talent pools being missed because of non negotiable salary packages. Misguided and unnecessary expenditure - travel costs, hub offices, international employee traffic. Training - shortsighted internally developed 'best practice' training, unfortunately I think this is one of the only places that Meltwater is 'asleep in class' (to coin a phrase from Jorn himself) Other those few, easily resolved issues, Meltwater is a progressive and inspiring company which is growing and I am sure will become a well known entity within the next 5-10 years.
