Juice isn't worth the squeeze
Pros
- interesting problems at large scale - fast career growth (on paper - growing technically is a different story) - great pay, though not top of market
Cons
- incentive structures cause everyone to focus on short term wins to the detriment of ambition and true technical growth. The amount of time and effort everyone places on gaming performance reviews instead of actually working is astonishing. - many bureaucratic hoops to jump through coupled with *insane* resource constraints make work extremely slow and hard. Even if you work efficiently, processes and bureaucracy will force work to spill outside of reasonable working hours. - nearly everyone is deeply stressed out. - talent density is mid and people make up for it by working around the clock - no stability with constant reorgs and layoffs. I've had three managers and over the past two years
