Pros

My direct team were great. They were supportive, kind, and hard-working people. Facebook was actually a decent place to work back in the day, teeming with awesome talent, collaborative problem-solving, and common goals across the board.

Cons

Leadership is chaotically unaware of what to do to save the company. They know how to appease stakeholders, temporarily. Time and money is egregiously wasted. Many important leaders exited the company in early 2022. Post-layoffs, it is clear Meta is dedicated to not only keeping, but rewarding bottleneck pseudo-managers. They do zero work, but are exquisitely skilled in manipulating their way into off-cycle promotions during tough times, strictly on the basis of hot air and brilliantly fabricated performance data. Allergic to the courage of decision-making, it is nauseatingly clear in every interaction that they lack a basic, fundamental understanding of what is actually happening. As such, Meta has become an insufferably uninteresting place to work.

Pros

Great perks - compensation, health benefits, opportunities to travel, working with smart people, career growth

Cons

- Poor work life balance as UK and US teams are co-dependent, so you have to work within both BST and PDT time zones; sometimes surpassing 12 hours of work in a day. - Poor management decisions have made the company very unstable and unhealthy work environment leading to lack of motivation. Lots of disruptive change that impacts productivity such as; numerous mega re-orgs within one quarter (I've had 3 major reorgs in H1/23 and 3 managers in one year), 4 rounds of massive layoffs in 6 months, lack of stable company vision - shifting company priorities i.e. the jump from Commerce to Reels to Metaverse to generative AI in such a short period. - Lack of job security and loss of trust for leadership after constant layoffs - Even though there is opportunity to work on the world's largest problems, most employees work on very limited scope that is not really satisfying

Pros

Still somewhat prestigious on resume.

Cons

Leadership created uncertainty and lack of motivation for all employees even top performers. Bonuses getting nerfed, rewards go down and expectations go up. Quality of work went down the drain with the efficiency efforts, and people are just rushing to launch anything at this point to avoid getting laid off. People are a hit and miss, the worst PM I've worked with in my decade long career has been here. Some good engineers though. Last week they fired UXRs and CDs and I'm supposed to take on their responsibilities.
