- Useless leadership and managers - Bottom-up culture doesn't work well on the scale - Short-term thinking, buggy products, impact/metric driven incentives - Everyone thinks about ways to maximize their bonus rather than thinking about product quality - Engineers are mostly code monkeys. Not much opportunity for system design in scale. Everyone are supposed to product code, and every line is counted and impacts the reviews.

Absolutely terrible management culture. No direction or vision beyond rampant empire building. If you’re joining as a senior IC you should be careful to vet your manager and try and gauge whether they are experienced enough to know how what they want from your role and how they intend to support you in that. I was unlucky in this regard. There is no culture of remote collaboration in a hybrid working environment. Tenured employees have basically retreated into their silos and have no interest in collaborating with/onbaording new joiners (shockingly true of both Ms and ICs). Cold and indifferent onboarding experience completely outsourced to an internal system with no thought into how to support new joiners beyond the generic experience.
