Pros
Meta gives its people flexibility to contribute their own ideas. Regular hackathon gives you time to realize your ideas with the group of people that share common interests. The benefits here are really generous. I was always surprised by the type of perks I can get.
Cons
I was in Reality Labs for the entire journey at Meta. It was a very flexible place, but getting more and more cautious. Projects need several rounds of reviews for the sake of “quality”, however small the size of the project is. But it turns out to be a pile of document reviews that can be thrown away eventually. These are widely considered as additional overhead by most engineers.
