Pros

There is no better workplace in the world of High Tech companies to achieve Accomplishment, Challenge, Stability, Experience, Flexibility. 1. Achieve accomplishment because you know that the products and services you build will most likely impact millions of people all over the world. This is a very powerful reason to wake up and come to work every morning. 2. Challenge yourself to be as good as you can be to contribute to a team with some of the best minds in the industry. 3. Develop a work and life balance that is not possible in most of the startup and smaller companies who expect your long term family and personal priorities be sacrificed for their short term gain. 4. Gain invaluable experience and discipline in building world-class software. This experience alone will make you a much complete professional and can be transfered to other places. 5. Flexibility and choice on the type of work, the specific project and the way of working that best matches your own interests and skills. Not to mention unlimited training opportunities, flexible work hours and balance of work and life priorities.

Cons

Lack of good "people managers", Troublesome process to recognize and award achievements, LAck of cross-group collaboration.

Pros

You are valued, your input matters. They encourage individual thinking and ideas. People listen, the benefits are great, you work highly intelligent people. Its a great experience. I love going to work every day. Its exciting to see all the new products being developed and then their launch parties. Havign access to EVERYONE is awesome, when I find a bug I am able to report it and get it fixed. If I think something is wierd about a program I can get in touch with the person in charge of that feature and let him know my thoughts. It's excellent.

Cons

You can sometimes get into working some crazy hours that throw the work life balance out of whack. You are working for the giant. There are a few bad eggs, but that is likely at all companies.

Pros

Tons of product areas at this company so you can easily find the group which suits you the best. Xbox games, MSN, Windows, SQL, Visual Studio, Home Entertainment, Privacy/Security, Entertainment, Autos, Mobile, etc, etc. etc.... I've worked at Hewlett Packard, and Google, and have friends at IBM and Intel and nothing beats Microsoft in this regard.

Cons

You need to be in Redmond for maximum visibility within the company for promotions, and Redmond is COLD and RAINY all winter long... We seem to be growing a little too fast lately. 40,000 in Redmond is a bit too much.
