Pros

1. The WLB here is so insane, it's crazy. But as a result, I think we pay for it in other ways - see con 1 2. Genuinely caring and empathetic work culture and leadership except when it comes to one specific aspect - see con 1 3. Compared to anything outside big tech, the compensation package is amazing 4. Brand recognition, prestige, company perks, visa sponsorship, etc.

Cons

1. Really the main con is that compared to the rest of big tech: Amazon, Google, Meta, etc. the pay is embarrassingly low. It's so low that this con is precipitating other cons like: 2. being unable to retain talent as people are easily enticed by other companies due to the huge difference in pay 3. being unable to bring in experienced talent from other big companies due to the said difference in pay, hence the talent pool gets more and more diluted with mediocre talent

Pros

Access to latest technology. A lot of self development potential for either relationship, project or technical skills. Unlimited trainings for Microsoft products (if you are an FTE, not a contractor). Equity bonus and other benefits for healthcare, breakfast in the office. Great community and culture that promotes diversity.

Cons

Work life balance disregarded. Managers would not care what your days look like, how well prepared you are, they would just throw work and put pressure on you to finish it. Management changes too often (3-5 months change in leadership). Performance reviews are not fair, sometimes bonuses are halted because of one little thing that has no influence on the whole period reviewed, rather just a managerial decision. Mid and High management are very demanding and do a lot of micro-management. They also don`t take any opinions from employees, and put themselves on a pedestal with ease. Most management positions are given on friendship rather than competency and skill level assessment, and motivation most importantly to drive people to success.

Pros

Microsoft's focus on Diversity and Inclusion is stellar. Satya Nadella has instilled a "One Microsoft" Culture that's truly working. We're all expected to leverage the works of others and to contribute to the efforts of others. I love the spirit of collaboration . We are truly inventing the future and solving some of the toughest software challenges on the planet. Most of my career, I had few good things to say about Microsoft or its products and that has definitely changed in the past 7 years since Satya has taken the helm. I'm now a true believe and genuinely am pro-Microsoft in every respect. It's also easy to move from group to group as your career goals change and as you respond to re-orgs. There is a sense of "as long as you stay at Microsoft" our main goal is your career success in such changes in roles. Microsoft is also one of the best technology companies I've seen regarding nurturing your career goals. There's a real sense of nurturing our talent. No company is perfect, but Microsoft is darn close.

Cons

There simply aren't many. We re-org a lot, but I both understand the need and I also am quite tolerant of the pivots. If that's hard for you, it may be the one thing that will be undesirable.
