There's more than enough work to go around. There's so much opportunity to spread one's wings that spreading them effectively becomes a needed skill.
Cons
You need to know how to navigate intense amounts of ambiguity. While you can spread your wings, you may not get much guidance as to how. Microsoft also operates on quite a bit of tribal knowledge, making it more difficult for folks who are coming in from the outside.
