      - relatively good autonomy (for a large company) - opportunities for publishing and self development in scientific role - lots of smart people

      Cons

      - red tape - depending on the group it can feel more like a collection of individual researchers than a unified team - senior management felt disconnected from the work and didn't promote a believable unifying vision
