Pros

I'm a language lover who enjoys programming, so this is pretty much my ideal job in terms of work function -- but there's much more that makes me love it here. I've been at Nuance three years and It's by far the best place I've worked (out of 6 companies in 15 years). The workforce is smart, diverse, and dedicated. Every manager I've had here -- even the first timers -- is highly culturally competent and committed to my success. The company's communication structure is set up very well for working remotely; I can work effectively whenever and wherever I want. I'm currently the only employee on my team in this particular location, but I never feel like I'm left out of the loop. As someone who's a minority in several ways within engineering culture, I'm always wary of being disrespected or ignored, but that has never happened here. There are so many opportunities to learn new things and a strong culture of collaboration. The technology is exciting and fast-paced. Never a dull moment!

Cons

Oracle time-tracking is very painful. The most miserable time of my week is filling out my time card, with constantly-changing budget codes (and frequent orders to go back and change all our previously approved time cards) and a poorly designed UI. The intranet is slow with an ineffective search engine. Much of the negative reviews I've read focus on upper management and strategy. They could be right; we've seen a number of transitions and some questionable decisions, and quite a few excellent people have left. My manager does a great job of shielding me from most of that and clarifying my priorities, so I don't have to be worried about it personally but agree that it's a concern. There are a lot of teams doing a lot of the same things and we aren't collaborating as effectively as we could be.
