Pros

Real future potential if supported by meaningful vision and strategy Middle management tries to save the company from itself Fascinating products

Cons

Senior management is unqualified Senior management is not held to any standards Bad results only lead to lay offs of their reports, no accountability Internal 'good old boy' network protects the careers of those who came from Scansoft and early acquisitions No decision making powers to middle management A CEO who has squandered long term revenues for significantly reduced short term prepays, resulting in inflated performance No accountability for CEO for the many failures: SnapIn almost a quarter billion dollar investment, totally wasted. No reuse of technology, no reuse of IP, and most employees left after various layoff cycles Inability of senior management to define a vision and strategy. Technologically ignorance is strong at senior level CEO's benefits are far too high given the revenue level of the company and its performance Board was totally owned by CEO as chairman of the Board Quarterly driven focus resulting in short term selling of assets and deals at significantly reduced rates, destroying long term profit opportunities Across the board layoffs are common place while top management is protected Unless part of the inner circle, promotions are impossible, no room for internal growth Annual bonuses and reviews are aimed to minimize recognition and room for yearly adjustments Inability to attract and retain top talent, including CEO and senior management levels Big promises to our customers until the contract is signed, then support suddenly is non-existent.

Pros

Great people with great skills. It is great to be part of a market leader in key growing technological domains

Cons

Not always so fast in taking decisions. People not encouraged to take risks and be fully rewarded for success. Often too much US-centric.
